Our God is Greater

Please note, "Our God is Greater" was first published in my devotional "FromThe Shepherd's Heart." I am sharing it here now to encourage you as we continue in the uncertainty brought on by the COVID_19 pandemic.

Today we want to have a quick word of encouragement – a reminder that no matter what happens in this world we have no need to fear. We need to be reminded that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. (See 1 John 4:4.) It is because our God – whose Spirit dwells in us – is greater that we can live victoriously no matter what it looks like.
The word of God lets us know, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah 59:19) This assures us that our God is greater; that no matter what is happening to us or around us, we, through our relationship with God, have the upper hand.
The Bible says in Psalm 34:19, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.” This again assures us that no matter what may happen in the earth or what afflictions the enemy brings our way, the God we serve is greater. For further proof we turn to 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 and see that, “We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.” This is true because our God is greater.
When we remind ourselves that the God we serve is greater than anything or anyone that can come against us, we can be just like the three Hebrew boys in Daniel 3. We will be able to stand before kings and tell them, “We are not careful to answer thee… our God whom we serve is able to deliver us…” (See verses 16-17.) They knew that the God they served was greater than any earthly ruler. That’s the same God we serve today, and He is still greater.
To bring it all home remember this: If your job closes and you find yourself out of work, God who is greater has declared He will supply all your need. (See Philippians4:19.) When you have sickness in your body and the doctors don’t know what to do, God who is greater says to us, by His stripes we are healed. (See Isaiah53:5.) In Psalm 27:2 David writes that when his enemies came against him, they stumbled and fell. Why, because our God is greater.

Father in Heaven, when the enemy rises up and it seems as if all the forces of hell are against us, let us not forget that you are greater. Rise up on our behalf and show yourself strong and mighty. (See Psalm24:8.) Let the world know that no matter what it looks like, through Christ, we are more than conquerors (Romans8:37) and our God is greater!
